Two people have been killed while a pregnant woman sustained serious injuries in a road accident involving a motorcycle and a “Sisu Seriya” bus in Mihindupura area of Anuradhapura this morning (15), police stated.
The injured woman has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Police said the accident occurred when the motorcycle carrying three individuals — two men and a woman — collided with a Sisu Seriya bus transporting schoolchildren. The two males traveling in the motorcycle died at the scene.
Initial investigations have revealed that one of the deceased men and the injured pregnant woman had travelled from Polonnaruwa to visit a friend’s residence. They were travelling on the motorcycle with another friend when the collision occurred.
The bus driver has been arrested in connection with the accident, and further investigations are being conducted by the Anuradhapura Traffic Police.
