
Sri Lanka’s Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) has reported strong operational performance during the first half of 2026, highlighting growth in passenger movements, aircraft movements, and tourist arrivals to the island.
According to the BIA, the airport handled a total of 4,748,481 passenger movements between January and June 2026.
During the same period, 30,659 aircraft movements were recorded, while 424,856 transit passenger movements passed through the country's main international gateway.
The airport also noted that 1,146,573 tourists arrived in Sri Lanka during the first six months of the year, underscoring the continued recovery and growth of the country's tourism sector.
Sharing the mid-year operational update, the Bandaranaike International Airport stated that it continues to connect people, cultures, and opportunities while playing a vital role in strengthening Sri Lanka's aviation and tourism industries.
The airport also expressed confidence in achieving greater milestones during the second half of 2026.
