
Police have launched an investigation to arrest two individuals who allegedly fled after throwing a suspicious parcel into the Galle Prison premises from near the Galle Railway Yard, located behind the prison.
According to a tip-off received by the Police Special Bureau, officials attached to the Galle Police Headquarters have commenced an extensive investigation into the incident.
Police recovered the suspicious parcel thrown by the two individuals and conducted an examination, during which 2,180 milligrams of Crystal Methamphetamine, commonly known as ‘Ice’, along with tobacco and a total of 49 cigarette lighters were found.
Police suspect that the parcel containing drugs and contraband had been prepared to be thrown over the prison wall with the intention of reaching inmates.
Further investigations are underway by the Galle Police Headquarters to identify and arrest the suspects involved.
