
The Welfare Benefits Board has reported cases of fraudulent activities involving the misappropriation of funds allocated to Aswesuma beneficiaries.
In a special statement, the Board stated that individuals in various parts of the island have been contacting Aswesuma beneficiaries using different telephone numbers while impersonating officials from the Board’s head office.
According to the statement, the callers claim that they are updating beneficiary information or provide other reasons to request monetary payments from recipients.
The Welfare Benefits Board emphasized that these activities are being carried out without its knowledge or authorization. The Board has advised the public to report such incidents to the nearest police station and has instructed field officers to remain vigilant regarding the matter.
Furthermore, the Board requested that beneficiaries who have received such calls take necessary steps to lodge complaints with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the relevant police division.
