Police have opened fire in self defence after two individuals on a motorcycle had attacked officers who were attempting to subject them to a search along the Weerasinghe Mawatha in Piliyandala this morning(19).
Police stated that the incident had occurred this morning (19) during a drug-related raid.
According to police, officers had attempted to stop and search two individuals travelling on a motorcycle when one of the suspects allegedly tried to attack a police officer using a sharp weapon.
Police then had opened fire, injuring the suspect, who was subsequently admitted to the Kalubowila Hospital for treatment.
The other individual who was travelling on the motorcycle had fled the scene, and police have launched investigations to apprehend the suspect.
