One killed, six injured in Matara defender-lorry collision

An individual has been killed while six others sustained injuries in a road accident in Wellamadama, Matara this afternoon (19).
The accident occurred when a cement-laden lorry travelling from Dondra towards Matara collided with a defender vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.
Police stated that seven people were inside the defender at the time of the accident.
The deceased was the driver of the defender vehicle. Hospital sources said that two of the six injured victims are in critical condition.
The defender also sustained extensive damage in the collision. It was revealed that the vehicle had been hired by the group for a day.
Matara Police are conducting further investigations into the accident.
