An Army corporal has been killed in a road accident this morning after a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus collided with his motorcycle near Paramakanda Junction, in Anamaduwa.

The victim was identified as a 38-year-old resident of Uriyawa, Anamaduwa.

Police said the corporal had returned home yesterday after completing an extended military training program in Trincomalee and was due to report back for duty today.

According to police, he had dropped off his two daughters at the school on his motorcycle and was riding back home when the crash occurred.

The accident involved an SLTB bus attached to the Puttalam Depot, which was travelling from Puttalam to Kurunegala. Police said the driver reportedly lost control of the bus before it struck the motorcycle.

The bus continued for nearly 100 metres before coming to a stop following the collision, police said.

The motorcycle was completely destroyed, and the corporal died at the scene.

Police also revealed that one of the victim's daughters is scheduled to sit this year's Grade 5 Scholarship Examination.

Police noted that the stretch of road where the crash occurred has been the site of numerous fatal accidents in recent years.

The Traffic Division of the Anamaduwa Police is conducting further investigations, while the driver of the SLTB bus has been arrested.
