Spells of showers expected in parts of the island today
A few showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts today (22), the Department of Meteorology stated.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva and Eastern provinces after 2:00 p.m.
Mainly dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island, the Met. Department added.
Meanwhile, strong winds of about 40-50kmph can be expected at times over the Northern, North-central provinces and in the Hambantota, Trincomalee districts.
The general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
