
Former Navy Commander Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne has been granted bail by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court after appearing as a suspect in a case alleging that he aided a suspect to evade arrest in connection with the 2008 abduction and disappearance of 11 youths in Colombo and its suburbs.
Former Navy Commander Wijegunaratne appeared before the court in compliance with a notice previously issued by the Magistrate’s Court.
When the charges were presented, the former Navy Commander pleaded not guilty, Ada Derana reporter said.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena then ordered that former Navy Commander Wijegunaratne be released on two surety bails of Rs. 1 million each.
The Magistrate further directed that the case be taken up again on 9 December for trial proceedings.
