The warning, issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at 10.00 a.m. today (06), will remain in effect until 10.00 a.m. tomorrow (07).

According to the Department, sea areas extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota are expected to be very rough at times, with strong gusty winds reaching 60 to 70 kmph.

The Department has advised naval and fishing communities not to venture into these sea areas until further notice.

Meanwhile, sea areas extending from Batticaloa to Matara via Trincomalee, Kankesanthurai, Puttalam, Colombo and Galle are forecast to be rough at times, with winds strengthening to 50 to 60 kmph.

Fishermen and naval personnel operating in these waters have been urged to exercise caution and remain alert to rapidly changing sea conditions.

The Department of Meteorology has also called on fishing and naval communities to closely monitor future weather forecasts and warnings before undertaking any activities at sea.
