Showers or thundershowers can occur in several areas of the country tomorrow (07), with heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm possible in some areas, the Department of Meteorology has warned.

 

According to the weather forecast issued by the Met. Department, cloudy skies will prevail over the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

 

Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely in some areas in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

 

Showers or thundershowers may also occur at several places in the Ampara, Batticaloa, and Monaragala districts after 2.00 p.m.

 

The Met. Department said strong winds of around 40 to 50 kmph could occur at times in the North-Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-Western provinces.

 

The general public has been advised to take necessary precautions to minimise possible damage caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
