Govt suspects prison incidents are a conspiracy or sabotage - Minister Wijepala
Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala says the government suspects that the incidents of unrest reported at several prisons across the country may have been the result of a planned conspiracy or acts of sabotage, based on investigations and intelligence information gathered so far.
However, speaking in Parliament today (07), the Minister stated that preliminary investigations have identified drug-related activities and underworld involvement as the immediate causes behind the recent incidents of clashes and unrest within prisons.
He added that further investigations are underway to determine the full extent of any organized involvement behind the incidents.
