The number of dengue-related deaths reported in Sri Lanka has risen to 64 so far this year, according to the latest data released by the National Dengue Control Unit.

 

A total of 89,033 dengue cases have been reported across the country so far this year. Of the total cases, 52.94%, or 47,136 patients, have been reported from the Western Province, according to the data.

 

At the district level, Gampaha has been the most severely affected, recording 18,922 cases, accounting for 21.25% of the total. 

 

Meanwhile, 17,679 cases (19.86%) have been reported from the Colombo District, while 6,298 cases (7.07%) have been reported from the Kandy District. A total of 3,569 cases have been reported from the Colombo Municipal Council area alone.

 

The highest number of monthly cases was recorded in July, with a total of 29,973 cases. Meanwhile, 3,686 cases have been reported during the first seven days of August alone.

 

Health authorities have identified 119 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas as high-risk dengue zones.
