Remittances sent by Sri Lankan migrant workers exceeded US$5 billion during the first seven months of the year, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).
According to the latest Central Bank report, total foreign remittances received from January to July amounted to US$5.3824 billion.
This represents a significant increase compared with the same period last year, when Sri Lanka received US$4.4352 billion in remittances.
Accordingly, remittance inflows during the first seven months of this year increased by US$947.2 million compared with the corresponding period in the previous year.
Meanwhile, remittances received in July alone amounted to US$777.6 million.
This marks a modest increase from the US$697.3 million received in June, according to data released by the CBSL.
