A new water purification facility was opened today (09) to provide safe drinking water to around 1,300 families facing severe difficulties in accessing potable water in the Thirappane Divisional Secretariat area.

The facility, established within the premises of the Thirappane Divisional Secretariat, was inaugurated under the leadership of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lieutenant General Nilantha Premaratne.

This marks the first community welfare initiative attended by the newly appointed Army Commander since assuming office.

The project was implemented with a financial contribution of Rs. 2.65 million from a Sri Lankan resident in the United States, who supported the initiative through a personal connection with the new Army Commander.

Construction of the facility began approximately three months ago, with the involvement of Army personnel, following coordination by Lieutenant General Premaratne during his tenure as Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army.

The project was launched to address the drinking water needs of residents in Thirappane, who have been facing significant difficulties in accessing clean drinking water.
