Two individuals have been arrested during a raid on an illegal liquor production and distribution centre operating at the Weras Ganga Park near the Karadiyana garbage dump.

Police recovered 135 litres of illicit liquor valued at nearly Rs. 1.5 million, stored in eight barrels, along with approximately 16,000 litres of fermented wash used in the production of illegal liquor.

A large quantity of equipment used for manufacturing the liquor was also seized during the raid.

The operation was carried out following information received by the Officer-in-Charge of the Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau that an illegal liquor manufacturing operation was being conducted in the area.

Police said the illicit liquor was being produced and distributed to several areas, including Mount Lavinia, Moratuwa and Piliyandala.

The suspects, who are residents of Ratmalana, were taken into custody during the raid.

The Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau is conducting further investigations into the incident.
