
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary, Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasam, was arrested by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) this morning (10), said police.
He was reportedly arrested on allegations of issuing threats against the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and making statements in a manner that could incite public disaffection towards the Government and the President.
Kariyawasam was arrested after he arrived at the CCIB to provide a statement regarding comments he had allegedly made concerning the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
He had been summoned to the CCIB today to facilitate the investigation into the alleged remarks.
The CCIB commenced the investigation on the instructions of the IGP in connection with the statement reportedly made by Kariyawasam concerning the Police Chief.
