Organised crime suspect Danushka Kaushalya, alias “Ratmalane Saima,” who was arrested in Malaysia, was brought back to Sri Lanka today (10), with police investigations uncovering information relating to several organised crimes.

The suspect had been arrested in an operation conducted by a team from the Walana Central Anti Vice Striking Force, with the assistance of Malaysian Police and Interpol. He had been the subject of a Red Notice.

The 41-year-old suspect is a resident of Ratmalana and had also lived temporarily in Peradeniya and Tissamaharama, according to police.

Police said he has been named as an accused in two cases pending before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court in connection with the alleged abduction and assault of a person in 2014 and the shooting death of another person in 2016, both within the Peradeniya Police Division.

An open warrant had been issued against him for failing to appear before court in those cases.

Police further said the suspect had been arrested in 2003 in connection with a robbery within the Mount Lavinia Police Division and was subsequently indicted before the Colombo High Court.

He was also arrested in 2007 by the Mount Lavinia Police for allegedly possessing a hand grenade.

Two other Sri Lankan nationals who were arrested alongside Saima in Malaysia — a 35-year-old resident of Ratmalana and a 31-year-old resident of Mount Lavinia — were also brought back to Sri Lanka today for further investigations.

Police investigations have reportedly revealed that “Ratmalane Saima” handled the financial affairs of organised crime figure “Kanjipani Imran.”

He had also allegedly managed Kanjipani Imran’s social media activities and arranged for audio recordings attributed to him to be circulated through social media.

Investigators have further uncovered information that Saima allegedly helped “Kehelbaddara Padme” remain in hiding in Malaysia last year, reportedly on the instructions of Kanjipani Imran.

Police said Saima had previously been a close associate of “Kudu Anju,” who is believed to be residing in France, before later joining Kanjipani Imran.

Investigations have also reportedly revealed that Kudu Anju had allegedly planned to kill Saima, and that Saima began working closely with Kanjipani Imran after being warned of the alleged plan.

Police said Saima had fled to Malaysia approximately 10 years ago.

Further investigations into the suspects are being conducted under the instructions and direct supervision of the Inspector General of Police.
