Residents in the affected areas say the lack of water has made it increasingly difficult to carry out their farming activities.
Paddy cultivation in the Polonnaruwa District has also begun to suffer significant damage due to the prevailing drought conditions.
Meanwhile, farmers in the Anuradhapura District say their crops have suffered severe damage due to the lack of water.
However, the Department of Meteorology has indicated that significant rainfall is not expected in the affected areas before October and November.
