Two children drowned after a vallam boat carrying a family capsized in a lagoon in the Kurakkanhena area of Kalpitiya last afternoon (11), police said.
The victims were a seven-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl.
According to preliminary investigations, the family had been travelling in the boat to collect fishing nets when the vessel capsized.
The children drowned in the accident, while their father was rescued and admitted to the Puttalam Hospital for further treatment.
The Kalpitiya Police are conducting further investigations.
Meanwhile, a 52-year-old man drowned while bathing in the sea off the Charty beach area in Velanai, within the Kayts Police Division.
Police said the deceased was a resident of Kokkuvil.
The Kayts Police have commenced investigations into the drowning.
