Traffic restrictions announced for Bellanwila Esala Perahera

Traffic restrictions will be imposed on several roads from August 13 to 15 in connection with the annual Esala Maha Perahera of the Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya, police said.

 

Police have advised motorists to use alternative routes during the procession hours to avoid delays.

 

August 13 – Pawada Perahera

 

The Pawada Perahera will begin at 7.00 p.m. on August 13 and conclude at 10.00 p.m.

 

During this period, traffic on the 119 Maharagama–Dehiwala bus route will be restricted at Boralesgamuwa Town and Bellanthara Junction.

 

Motorists travelling from Maharagama or Piliyandala towards Dehiwala can use the following alternative route:

 

Proceed to Pepiliyana Junction, turn right, travel via the Spaar Roundabout towards Bellanthara, and continue to Dehiwala via Nedimala.

 

An alternative route connecting Boralesgamuwa with Galle Road is also available via Gangaramaya Road, from Werahera Junction to Golumadama Junction, police noted.

 

August 14 – Ransivili Perahera

 

The Ransivili Perahera will commence at 8.00 p.m. on August 14 and continue until 2.00 a.m. on August 15.

 

Traffic on the 119 Maharagama–Dehiwala route between Boralesgamuwa Junction and Bellanthara Junction will be restricted during the procession.

 

Vehicles travelling from Dehiwala towards Maharagama can:

 

Turn left at Bellanthara Junction and use the 117 route to reach Pepiliyana Junction, then turn right towards Boralesgamuwa.

 

Heavy vehicles travelling towards Dehiwala can use the Piliyandala– Katubedda route to access Galle Road.

 

Light vehicles travelling from Maharagama towards Dehiwala can use Malani Bulathsinhala Road, Pitawella Road and Kahawita Mawatha to reach the 117 route.

 

August 15 – Randōli Maha Perahera

 

The Randōli Maha Perahera will begin at 8.00 p.m. on August 15 and conclude at 4.00 a.m. on August 16.

 

Traffic restrictions will be imposed at:

Boralesgamuwa Junction
Bellanthara Junction
Nedimala Junction

 

The 117 Ratmalana–Nugegoda Road between the Attidiya Police Training College Junction and Pepiliyana Junction


Motorists travelling from Maharagama and Piliyandala towards Dehiwala can use Kohuwala Junction and the Kohuwala–Kalubowila Road to access Galle Road.

 

Vehicles travelling from Mount Lavinia and Ratmalana towards Maharagama and Boralesgamuwa can use Attidiya Bakery Junction, Galle Road and Kohuwala before continuing towards their destinations.

 

Vehicles travelling from Dehiwala towards Pepiliyana can use Anderson Road from Nedimala Junction and proceed via Kohuwala towards Colombo, Boralesgamuwa or Nugegoda.

 

Heavy vehicles travelling from Horana, Piliyandala, Kesbewa and Maharagama towards Galle Road can use the Kohuwala–Kalubowila Road.

 

Heavy vehicles travelling from Colombo towards Pepiliyana or Galle Road via Boralesgamuwa should proceed through Piliyandala Junction and Katubedda Road, accessing Galle Road at Katubedda Junction before continuing towards Ratmalana, Mount Lavinia, Moratuwa or Panadura.

 

Police have urged motorists to plan their journeys in advance and use the recommended alternative routes during the three-day Perahera period.
