Sri Lanka Police said that a four-year-old girl was found brutally assaulted and abandoned at a deserted location along Yatirawana Road in Wattegama today (13).
Police said officers attached to the Wattegama Police Station responded to information received through the police emergency hotline and discovered the child at the location before taking her into custody.
The police suspect that the child may have been abandoned at the location at around 7.00 a.m. after being brought there in a three-wheeler.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage regarding the three-wheeler suspected of transporting and abandoning the child, police said.
Police further said the girl has been unable to provide any information regarding her family or the place where she had been living.
The child has been admitted to the Kandy National Hospital for treatment.
Wattegama Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
