A total of 740 suspects were arrested yesterday under the ‘A Nation United - National Drive’ campaign launched by Sri Lanka Police to combat the spread of narcotics across the country.
The campaign, launched on October 30 last year, aims to disrupt the supply of drugs island-wide, reduce demand for narcotics, expand enforcement operations, rehabilitate drug addicts, and prevent drug abuse.
Accordingly, police arrested the suspects yesterday, while investigations into illegal assets have also been initiated against one of those arrested under the campaign.
In addition, steps have been taken to obtain detention orders against eight suspects to facilitate further investigations, while four other suspects have been referred for rehabilitation, police said.
