
The National Disaster Relief Services Centre has reported that 68,041 individuals have been affected by the prevailing dry weather conditions across the country.
Senior Assistant Secretary of the Centre, Prageeth Danansooriya, stated that residents in 17 Grama Niladhari divisions across four districts have been impacted. The affected districts are Batticaloa, Ampara, Moneragala, and Ratnapura.
According to the Centre, a total of 68,041 individuals from 21,873 families have been affected by the dry weather conditions.
Danansooriya further stated that measures have been taken to provide drinking water to 12,291 individuals from 3,495 families currently facing water shortages.
He added that assistance programmes have been organized in coordination with local government authorities to provide the necessary support to the affected communities.
