Two motorcyclists have sustained serious injuries after being involved in separate accidents during a motorcycle race held between Blackpool and Magasthota in Nuwara Eliya today (16).
The injured riders were admitted to the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital for treatment.
The two-day racing event is being held today and tomorrow with the participation of several competitors, and is organized jointly by the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council and a private association in Colombo.
The race began near the Blackpool Bridge in Nanu Oya and runs through steep and winding roads across tea estates towards Magasthota as a timing race.
According to initial reports, the accidents occurred amid adverse weather conditions in Nuwara Eliya, after two motorcycles reportedly veered off the road and overturned into a tea plantation.
