The Department of Meteorology has issued an “Amber” advisory for strong winds and rough seas in the sea areas extending from Kankesanturai to Kalpitiya via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

 

According to the Department of Meteorology, the sea areas off the coasts extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Kankesanturai to Kalpitiya via Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times, with strong gusty winds up to 50-60 kmph.

 

The wave height may increase of about 2.5 – 3.0 meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Negombo to Pottuvil via Galle and Matara. 

 

These near shore areas may experience seawater inundation as well, it added.

 

Accordingly, the naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
