
The main suspect in the murder of an app-based ride-hailing motorcycle rider in the Galagahena area of Pitipana, Homagama, has been further remanded until August 24.
Homagama Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya issued the order after the suspect was produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court yesterday (17).
The suspect, who was remanded in custody, has been identified as a 51-year-old father of two from Ruwanwella.
The suspect is accused of brutally murdering the ride-hailing motorcycle rider by slitting his throat with a sharp weapon on July 16 and dumping his body in a nearby canal before fleeing the area.
Subsequently, during the investigation, Sri Lanka Police arrested the suspect in the Minneriya area, along with the weapon allegedly used in the murder.
Police investigations also led to the arrest and remand of one of the suspect’s sons, who is alleged to have aided and abetted the murder, based on information uncovered during the investigation.
Meanwhile, CCTV footage obtained by the police reportedly shows the suspect entering a restaurant in Homagama town after committing the murder, allegedly using the victim’s motorcycle and wearing his helmet and jacket.
