
An Amber advisory has been issued for strong winds and rough seas in the sea areas extending from Kankesanthurai to Chilaw via Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
The advisory, issued by the Department of Meteorology, will remain in effect until 10.30 a.m. tomorrow (20).
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankesanthurai to Chilaw via Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, are expected to be rough at times, with strong gusty winds of up to 50–60 kmph.
Wave heights may increase to approximately 2.5–3.0 metres in the sea areas off the coast extending from Negombo to Pottuvil via Galle and Matara.
These near-shore areas may also experience seawater inundation, it said.
Meanwhile, naval personnel and fishing communities engaged in activities in the affected sea areas have been advised to remain vigilant and exercise caution.
