The Public Health Inspectors’ (PHI) Union of Sri Lanka is considering launching an island-wide strike action.
Acting President of the union, Upul Rohana, stated that its Executive Committee is scheduled to meet this afternoon (19) to make a final decision on the matter.
The proposed trade union action follows the transfer of a Public Health Inspector who had provided a statement to the Health Ministry’s Investigation Unit regarding alleged fraud and corruption at the Airport Health Office. The union claims that the transfer was carried out in violation of established administrative procedures.
Rohana stated that further discussions on the issue will take place at today’s meeting, during which a final decision is expected to be made on whether to commence an island-wide strike from tomorrow.
