Three people, including a seven-year-old girl, were killed in a collision between a three-wheeler and a car in Delgoda within the Meegahawatta Police Division yesterday (19).
Police said the accident occurred on the New Kandy Road in Delgoda when a three-wheeler travelling from Biyagama towards Delgoda attempted to turn right and collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the three-wheeler, two women and two children sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the Udupila Divisional Hospital.
The three-wheeler driver, one of the women and a young girl later succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.
Police identified the deceased as a 69-year-old resident of Delgoda and a 39-year-old woman and her seven-year-old daughter from Siyambalape.
A young girl who was travelling in the car also sustained injuries and was admitted to the Ragama Hospital.
The Meegahawatta Police are conducting further investigations into the accident.
