Rs. 7.5 bln supplementary estimate for paddy procurement to be presented to parliament today

A supplementary estimate of Rs. 7,500 million to secure the necessary funds for the purchase of paddy during the 2026 Yala season is scheduled to be presented to Parliament today (21).

 

The decision was taken yesterday (20) at a meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Business, chaired by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.

 

Accordingly, the debate on the supplementary estimate is scheduled to be held today from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

 

The supplementary estimate has been submitted to reallocate Rs. 7,500 million originally allocated to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation for 2026 and expected to remain unutilized during the current year, for the procurement of paddy.

                                                                   

Meanwhile, the Adjournment Motion brought forward by the Government is scheduled to be debated from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
