
Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has revealed that fuel import expenditure during the first half of this year increased significantly compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
The Prime Minister made the disclosure in Parliament today (21) in response to an oral question raised on whether the impact of the Middle East conflicts on global crude oil prices and import costs had been assessed.
She stated that approximately USD 3,168 million was spent on fuel import expenditure during the first half of this year.
Adding further, she noted that during the corresponding period in 2025, the cost was USD 1,995 million, highlighting that fuel expenditure for this year has increased significantly compared to that period.
