Two people have died and six others were seriously injured in a fatal road accident on the Batticaloa– Koddaikallar main road near the Koddaikallar Kannaki Amman Temple last night (22), police stated.
The accident occurred at around 9:21 p.m. when two motorcycles travelling along the road collided with each other.
Following the collision, one of the motorcycles reportedly lost control and struck three students who were near the roadside and preparing to cross the road.
An 18-year-old died at the scene following the accident.
Six others sustained serious injuries and were subsequently admitted to hospital for treatment.
Among the injured, a 17-year-old boy later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
The three students who were struck by the motorcycle had reportedly been returning home after attending tuition classes.
They are said to be preparing to sit for this year's G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination.
The injured group reportedly includes three girls and two boys, while another person was also injured in the collision.
Police have commenced further investigations into the accident and the circumstances that led to the collision.
