The minimum age for driving three-wheelers in Sri Lanka could be increased to 40 years in the future, Deputy Minister of Vocational Education Nalin Hewage has stated.

The proposed measure is intended to discourage young people from turning to three-wheeler driving immediately after completing their school education, the Deputy Minister said.

Hewage made the remarks while highlighting the government’s focus on developing the country’s human resources through education and vocational training.

According to the Deputy Minister, Sri Lanka’s future depends on developing a skilled and capable younger generation, which he described as essential to transforming the country into a developed nation.

He said the government has therefore prioritized human resource development and introduced new education reforms aimed at bringing about a major transformation in the education sector.

Speaking further, Hewage said: “The future of our country lies in the hands of our children. A developed human resource is what will eventually make Sri Lanka a developed country. As a government, we are giving priority to human resource development. That is why we have introduced education reforms. We believe there needs to be a major transformation in education.”
