Sri Lanka is seeking to attract greater foreign direct investment (FDI) and strengthen international investor engagement through the upcoming Sri Lanka Economic and Investment Summit 2026, with diplomatic missions in Colombo being briefed on the opportunities available in the country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, in collaboration with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, conducted the briefing at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra highlighted Sri Lanka’s growing opportunities for foreign direct investment and access to emerging markets.

He stressed the importance of strengthening high-level public-private partnerships, while emphasising the private sector’s critical role in driving sustainable economic growth and attracting investment.

The Director General of Economic Affairs (Bilateral) at the Ministry also highlighted the importance of closer cooperation between the public and private sectors in positioning Sri Lanka as a regional hub for trade and investment.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Krishan Baldendra outlined the objectives and significance of the Economic and Investment Summit, while Secretary General and CEO Shiran Fernando briefed diplomatic representatives on the event’s key features, registration process and arrangements for visiting foreign delegations.

The briefing was aimed at encouraging diplomatic missions to support greater international participation in the Summit and promote Sri Lanka as an investment destination, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

The Sri Lanka Economic and Investment Summit 2026 will be held on October 12 and 13 in Colombo.

Organised by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, the Summit is expected to provide a platform to strengthen international partnerships, expand private-sector engagement and showcase opportunities for sustainable investment and economic growth in Sri Lanka.
