
The second Randoli Perahera of the historic Kandy Esala Perahera commenced parading the streets this evening (24), drawing large crowds of spectators to the streets of Kandy.
The procession began at around 7.00 p.m. at an auspicious time, proceeding in an easterly direction.
The sacred relic casket was carried by the tusker Sinha Raja during tonight’s procession, while the tuskers Miyan Raja and Pulathisi Raja accompanied Sinha Raja on either side.
A large number of devotees and visitors have gathered in Kandy to witness the spectacular pageant.
The Randoli Perahera is among the most anticipated events of the annual Kandy Esala Perahera, which features traditional dancers, drummers, flag bearers and decorated elephants and tuskers as part of the historic procession.
The Kandy Esala Perahera is held annually in honour of the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha, and attracts thousands of local and foreign visitors to the hill capital.
