A bizarre incident has left residents of Kohobankulama in Galgamuwa stunned after a man who was reportedly declared dead in police communication arrived home alive — while preparations for his funeral were already underway.
The man, identified as D. M. Keerthisena, had been detained at Wariyapola Prison when his relatives were reportedly informed by the Nanneriya Police that he had died while in custody.
Believing the news, relatives and villagers immediately organized his funeral. Banners announcing his death were put up around the village, while preparations were made at his home for the funeral, including the construction of a temporary canopy and arrangements for cremation.
But before the funeral could take place, Keerthisena himself unexpectedly walked into his home —alive and well.
His sudden appearance reportedly left relatives and villagers in disbelief, as they had been preparing to mourn his death just moments earlier.
The extraordinary incident has since caused widespread shock and confusion in the village, with questions now surrounding how the man came to be reported as dead, said Ada Derana correspondent.
