The Department of Meteorology has issued an “Amber” advisory for several sea areas extending from Mullaitivu to Chilaw via Kankesanthurai and Mannar, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

 

According to the Department of Meteorology, the sea areas off the coasts extending from Mullaitivu to Chilaw via Kankesanthurai and Mannar, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil, are expected to be rough at times, with strong gusty winds reaching speeds of 50–60 kmph.

 

Wave heights may increase to approximately 2.0–2.5 metres in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Matara.

 

Accordingly, naval personnel and fishing communities are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions in this regard.
