
Three individuals have been killed in separate road accidents reported in several parts of the country.
A seven-year-old girl was critically injured after being run over by a tractor on a bypass road in the Wedithalathivu 10th Division within the Adampan Police Division last evening (25).
She was rushed to Pallamadu Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, police said.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of the Wedithalathivu area.
A 32-year-old tractor driver has been arrested, and Adampan Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
Meanwhile, in another accident, a 45-year-old woman died following a collision between a jeep and a three-wheeler in the Weragama area on the Matale-Rattota Road last evening.
The three-wheeler, travelling towards Matale, collided head-on with the jeep travelling in the opposite direction.
The female driver of the three-wheeler and a child travelling in the rear sustained severe injuries and were admitted to Matale District General Hospital, where the woman later succumbed to her injuries.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of Punchi Rattota, police said.
The jeep driver has been arrested, while Rattota Police are conducting further investigations.
In a separate incident, a 63-year-old woman was fatally injured after being run over by a tipper truck near Ingurukade Junction in the Grandpass Police Division.
The woman was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing when she was struck by the truck travelling from the Colombo Port towards Ingurukade.
She was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital with critical injuries but later succumbed to her injuries.
The deceased was a resident of Colombo 15, police said.
The tipper truck driver has been arrested, and Grandpass Police are investigating the incident.
