Eight years after a Sri Lankan retired Army soldier was allegedly abducted, killed and disappeared in Kuruwita, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has uncovered new information regarding the incident. 

The information was revealed during questioning of a suspect who is currently being held under a detention order.

The Homicides and Organized Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested the suspect on June 8, along with a foreign-manufactured firearm and a stock of live ammunition.

During questioning, the suspect allegedly revealed that he had assaulted and killed a retired military officer named Nishshanka in Kuruwita eight years ago.

According to the suspect, the killing was motivated by his close relationship with the victim’s wife.

He further told investigators that the victim’s body was initially buried on a plot of land in the area and was later thrown into a nearby river.

Based on the information provided by the suspect, investigators were taken to the alleged location yesterday (25). However, the victim’s remains have not yet been recovered.

The suspect also allegedly revealed that he had taken a 25-year-old woman who was aware of the incident to India, where she was allegedly killed and subsequently disappeared.

Reports indicate that the suspect had also maintained a close relationship with the woman.

Further police investigations into the incident are underway.
