Dengue cases in Sri Lanka rise to 94,805 this year

According to the National Dengue Control Unit, the total number of dengue cases reported in the country so far this year has risen to 94,805.

 

Furthermore, data indicate that 72 dengue-related deaths have been recorded to date.

 

In August alone, 9,469 dengue cases have been reported so far, following 29,962 cases recorded in July and 21,533 cases in June.

 

The Western Province accounts for 52.92 per cent of the total cases, with 50,167 patients reported. Additionally, 13,823 cases have been reported from the Southern Province and 8,624 cases from the Central Province.

 

At the district level, the highest number of dengue cases has been recorded in the Gampaha District, with 20,207 cases.

 

Meanwhile, 18,794 cases have been reported from the Colombo District, 6,913 from Kandy, 6,117 from Kalutara, and 6,111 from Galle.

 

A total of 76 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas across the island continue to be identified as high-risk zones.
