The Department of Meteorology has issued an “Amber” advisory for strong winds and rough seas in the sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

 

According to the Department of Meteorology, the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvi will be rough at times, with strong gusty winds up to 50-60 kmph.

 

The wave height may increase to about 2.0 – 2.5 meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Negombo to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Matara, it added.

 

There is a possibility of seawater inundation over the near shore areas extending from Beruwala to Matara via Galle, it further said.

 

Accordingly, the naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
