Atmospheric conditions are becoming favourable for afternoon thundershowers in the Northern, North Central, Eastern and Uva provinces over the next few days, the Department of Meteorology stated.
Meanwhile, several spells of showers are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts today (03).
Showers or thundershowers may also occur at several places in the Uva, Central and Eastern provinces and in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts after 2 p.m., the Met. Department added.
The Met. Department urged the general public to take adequate precautions to minimise possible damage from temporary, localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, the sun will be directly overhead until September 7 due to its apparent southward movement.
Accordingly, the sun will directly be overhead in Madampe, Thorayaya, Thotagamuwa, Rattota and Kalavanchikudy at around 12.09 p.m., the Met. Department said.
