
A 30-year-old suspect known as “Bombuwala Sudda” has been arrested by the Kalutara District Crime Division for allegedly supplying motorcycles for underworld activities and drug trafficking.
Police launched an investigation following a complaint regarding the theft of a motorcycle parked near a shop in the Nagoda Junction area within the Kalutara South Police Division.
The suspect was identified through CCTV footage obtained from the area.
A team of police officers, including the Officer-in-Charge of the Kalutara District Crime Division, subsequently arrested the suspect while he was riding the stolen motorcycle in Bombuwala.
Police said that at the time of his arrest, stickers had been placed over the motorcycle’s number plate to alter its registered number.
Further investigations have revealed that the suspect is allegedly connected to several motorcycle thefts reported in the Ingiriya, Ratnapura and Kiriella Police Divisions.
He is suspected of supplying the stolen motorcycles to underworld groups for use in drug trafficking and other criminal activities.
The suspect is due to be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate’s Court. The Kalutara District Crime Division is conducting further investigations.
