
The main suspect in the murder of a man who was allegedly killed by being doused with petrol and set on fire at Oban Place in Dehiwala on August 29 has been arrested by the Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau.
The arrest was made based on information received by the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the bureau.
The suspect was arrested while hiding in the Kandy area following the murder, and police have also recovered the car allegedly used by him to flee the area.
During police interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed that he carried out the murder as an act of revenge for the killing of his father about two years ago.
Police further stated that the suspect is a close associate of an underworld criminal known as “Kosmalli”, while the deceased was reportedly a close associate of another criminal known as “Badowita Asanka”.
According to police, both individuals are allegedly accused of drug trafficking.
