
Deputy Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development R. M. Jayawardena stated that approximately 31 Lanka Sathosa outlets across the island were closed between January 2024 and October 2025.
He made these remarks in Parliament today (08) in response to a question raised by Member of Parliament Chanaka Madugoda.
The Deputy Minister further stated that, as of August 17 this year, 424 Lanka Sathosa outlets were operating islandwide.
R. M. Jayawardena also highlighted that, when the current government assumed office, Lanka Sathosa was incurring losses amounting to Rs. 24 billion.
He added that, at the time, the network had accumulated debt of Rs. 11 billion and maintained a bank overdraft of Rs. 5 billion.
