A fake police jeep allegedly used by organized criminals in an attempt to murder an undercover police informant was taken into custody (08) by the Walana Central Anti Vice Striking Force.

On November 29, 2025, an informant provided crucial information that led to an operation conducted under the direction of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rohan Olugala in the Kirinda coastal area. The operation resulted in the seizure of 325 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (‘Ice’), the arrest of eight suspects, and the impounding of six vehicles. The estimated value of the confiscated drug shipment exceeded Rs. 5 billion.

Reports indicate that overseas-based organized criminals known as “Ruban” and “Angoda Priyankara,” who allegedly operated the drug-trafficking ring, planned to retaliate against the informant for the substantial losses caused by the police raid. Their alleged objective was to abduct and murder the informant, decapitate him and leave his head in front of ASP Olugala’s residence.

Following the failure of their initial plot, the criminals allegedly attempted to run over and kill the informant using the fake police jeep approximately nine months later, at around 6:00 a.m. on September 5, 2026, while he was travelling towards Kirinda Harbour. The informant sustained injuries while attempting to evade the collision and is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital under police protection.

Acting on intelligence regarding the vehicle that fled the scene, the Walana Central Anti Vice Striking Force recovered the fake police jeep, which had been concealed inside a garage in the Hewagama area of Kaduwela.

The seized jeep was subsequently handed over to the Kirinda Police Station for further investigations, which remain ongoing.
