Police have discovered that the driver arrested over the fatal multi-vehicle crash that killed three people in Mattakkuliya yesterday, was driving under the influence of cannabis at the time of the crash, police said.
Three people were killed while ten others were seriously injured following the accident in the Mattakkuliya area last night (16).
The accident occurred when a speeding car collided with several other vehicles travelling along the road.
During the incident, the car had reportedly collided with three three-wheelers and four motorcycles.
The injured individuals in the accident were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital, where three of them subsequently succumbed to their injuries.
The driver of the car that caused the accident was arrested by police.
Mattakkuliya Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
