Sarvajana Balaya was formed with the aim of empowering the country’s youth, its leader Parliamentarian Dilith Jayaweera said.
MP Jayaweera made the remarks while attending a ceremony held at the Sarvajana Balaya party headquarters to present appointment letters to members of the Sarvajana Youth Front.
The event also included the appointment of the office-bearers of the Sarvajana Youth Front.
Speaking at the ceremony, MP Jayaweera said Sarvajana Balaya was not established to enable him to become President or to provide ministerial positions to its members.
“Sarvajana Balaya was not created so that I can become President or so that those here can become ministers. It was not created to fulfill such small ambitions,” he said.
He questioned when the country’s youth would rise and take their place in leadership, adding that Sarvajana Balaya provided a platform for young people who aspire to hold positions of leadership in the future.
“If you want to become President someday, here is the place for you — Sarvajana Balaya,” MP Jayaweera said.
