The Department of Meteorology has issued a red-level warning for strong winds and rough seas as a deep depression over the north Andhra Pradesh coast has moved slowly west-northwestwards and crossed the coast close to southwest of Kalingapatnam.
It then moved West-northwestwards and was centered at 05.30 a.m. today (24), over north coastal Andhra Pradesh near latitude 18.3°Nand longitude 83.7°E, about 1100 km North-East to Kankasanthurai.
Accordingly, wind speeds in the sea areas marked under the “Warning” category may increase to 70kmph at times, heavy thundershowers can occur, and the sea conditions in these areas will become very rough.
The wind speed in the sea areas marked under the “Advisory” category on the map below will increase to (55-65) kmph at times and those sea areas will be rough or very rough at times.
Naval and fishing communities are warned not to venture to the sea areas bounded by 10°N to 22°N latitude and 82°E to 90°E longitude until further notice.
The Department further advised naval and fishing communities operating in these sea areas to move away from the affected areas.
